After some decades of strong growth, Medieval studies in Brazil live a particularly positive moment. Historians in different parts of the country do research with increasingly more mature dialogue with traditional research groups abroad. Local publications abound. Today it is possible to cover almost the entire range of topics of higher education just with Brazilian publications. Nevertheless, its ancient reputation as a field of pure scholarship, devoted to a past that has been long overcome, remains. This perspective shows an isolation of this field that, due to its growth, requires reflection. The question we put here is how to conciliate the scholarship proper to Medieval studies with more significant social communication and institutional insertion. We will discuss how the writing of the history of the Middle Ages and its subjects can amplify its social participation.
