| es_ES |
dc.description.abstract | This article examines the origins and significance of the battle of Muret of 12 September 1213 in which the forces of Count Simon de Montfort defeated those of Peter II of Aragon, who died in the battle. The study briefly examines the outcome of the battle itself before looking at the long-term build-up of Aragonese power in the region of Languedoc through diplomacy and war, as well as the advance of the heretical threat that would lead to the Albigensian crusade. The article analyzes the breakdown in the relationship of the papacy and the crown of Aragon and finally argues for the long term influence of Muret in the history of Medieval Europe. | |
