This article recounts the historical period in which Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo lived, with a Church that went through complex situations with the arrival of the reform of Luther and Calvin, which represents the culmination of a period of unity achieved during the thirteenth century - by the holy doctors Bonaventure, Albertus Magnus and Thomas Aquinas - and that saw its first germ of split during the decadent fourteenth century through mainly the work of Guillermo de Ockham. The counter-reform of the Church, expressed in the Council of Trent, which aims to confront the Protestant reform, had as a faithful representative Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo. In this way, the purpose of this article is to represent how this counter-reform and the spirit of synthesis and luminosity of the thirteenth century manifests itself in the life and work of the Archbishop of the Viceroyalty of Peru. Keywords: Saint Toribio de Mogrovejo, Council of Trent, Thomas Aquinas, Luther, Calvin, Tridentine formation.
