Health in Latin America is a topic of great importance - to the extent that even the poverty belts are generally determined by the access to physical and mental well-being. Additionally, rural areas are pockets of poverty, where the survival of its inhabitants relies on their ability to face and sort out satisfactorily the morbidity episodes. This task has been historically assigned to women who are mothers as an agreed social role in a patriarchal culture. That is the reason why we have proposed ourselves to investigate the rural health, from a gender perspective, by observing the women's responsibility not only in the management of strategies and decisions to deal with illness affecting one member of the household, but also in shaping the concept of health within the community.
